July 2006 -- From Don Quan Hello!Thought I would put my two cents in. I live in Taiwan, where kits are not available, nor are any of the paints/lacquers/clear coats that most people on your site recommend. I ordered the Tele-style kit online, and started to work. I pretty much followed the instructions verbatim. The finish was automotive paint and clear coat from the local automotive shop-some Taiwanese brand. The kit was missing one screw for the string trees, so I didn't bother to install the tree for the D and G strings. After setting up the action, adjusting the saddles, etc. it played ok, but the B string was rather dead, presumably a problem with the nut (any pointers on how to fix this?). One other issue is the bridge plate -- after screwing it in place, the plate does not sit flush with the body; it angles up a bit at the pickup end. I am thinking about replacing the saddles and bridge plate, but otherwise, I am quite satisfied with the product. It plays and sounds ok. Definitely worth it's price! I am going to get the Strat-style kit next! Regards, Don Quan Kaohsiung City, Taiwan --------------------------------------------------------From GuitarAttack -- Regarding the nut, I believe the problem is that it is pinching the string. Take a small piece of fine sandpaper and slightly widen the slot -- but do not make it deeper. It should take care of the problem. Go slowly. Thanks again,
John Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out this weekend when I have time. The saddles are pretty crappy though too, I might try and grease them up with some graphite. Keep up the great job on the site. It is truly one of the most useful and entertaining guitar sites I've had the pleasure of stumbling upon. regards, Don Quan Kaohsiung City, Taiwan |
